About Us

Non NHS Requests

Jun 21, 2011
On occasions we are asked to undertake non NHS treatment or administrative work. There is a charge for this service as this involves additional work for the doctor and administrative team.

When you request any of the following services, you will be advised of the fee and timeframe before the work can be completed for you.  You will not require to see a Doctor first, simply speak to the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.  Examples include:

  • Passport form verification and signature
  • Holiday cancellation forms
  • To Whom It May Concern Letters
  • Private prescription
  • Private medical examination
  • Holiday vaccination
  • Insurance forms

You will be asked to make the payment before the Doctor can complete the examination or paperwork.  The Practice can accept either cash or cheque payments and you will be issued with receipt.

Useful Information

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, all GP practices in the region, working closely with NHS Dumfries and Galloway, have had to take the decision to change the way in which they deliver services in order to protect patients and staff. Some non-urgent clinics and appointments will be suspended to allow GPs to focus on the most vulnerable patients with the most complex needs.

Flu Vaccination Programme

This year the Flu Vaccination Programme will be delivered by the Health Board and will be taking place throughout October and November in Castle Douglas Town Hall. If you are eligible for the flu vaccination, you will be contacted directly with an appointment. Appointment letters will be sent out in batches approximately two weeks before the appointment. Patients are asked to be patient as this is a 12 week programme. You are eligible for the flu vaccination is you fall into any of the following categories:

Face Coverings

In line with recent Scottish Government guidance, can we ask that all patients wear a face covering when they attend the practice.

Video Consultations

We are now able to offer video consultations within the practice. Near Me is a video consulting service that enables people to have health appointments from home or wherever is convenient. All you need is a device for making video calls like a smartphone and an internet connection. Near Me is a secure form of video consulting approved for use by the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland.

COVID-19 Social Distancing

If you fall into the category of adults eligible for the annual flu vaccines for medical reasons, eg diabetes, heart disease, stroke, you will not be proactively contacted by the practice but it is recommended that you take active steps to reduce your social interactions to reduce the transition of coronavirus.

Shielding is a measure to protect extremely vulnerable people from coming into contact with coronavirus by minimising all interaction between them and others. The benefit is that, by following the extremely stringent process of avoiding contact with others, this will minimise the chance of catching COVID-19.

A new advice line, supported by NHS24, has been launched to address all COVID-19 patient enquiries.

Minor Injuries Unit at Castle Douglas Hospital

If you disagree with the way your GP wants to treat you, or you are unhappy about the service provided by your GP surgery, tell them openly.

However, if you feel unable to do so or you are unhappy with the response you receive, you may wish to make a complaint.

All GP surgeries should have a written complaints procedure and you will find this at reception or on the practice website.

As a first step, speak to the practice manager. You can complain to the practice verbally or in writing.

If this does not resolve the problem, or you would rather not raise the issue directly with the practice, you can complain to the Health Board via the Complaints Department.

Please contact Mr Campbell Watt, Practice Manager by telephone on 01556 505900 or in writing.

Online Prescriptions

We are now able to offer an online prescription ordering service.  To sign up for this, please contact reception with proof of identification. A member of the team will explain to you how the service works and provide you with a registration letter which will contain your unique access code. You will then be able to log on and order medication which is on your repeat prescription list.
