The Nursing Team
The Nursing Team is lead and managed by Pauline Brown, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and consists of Margaret Murray Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Senior Practice Nurse, Gillian Brogan, Practice Nurse Susan Johnstone, Treatment Room Nurse, Gillian White and Health Care Assistants Sharon Robinson and Megan McDougall.
They are a vital part of the practice and a very skilled and experienced team who work very closely together alongside the doctors to provide an important service to patients.
Mrs Pauline Brown, Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Pauline manages and leads the practice nursing team.
She has undergone advanced training to obtain her qualificastion.
She is fully integrated into the team and works in close lisason with the Doctors. She runs her own surgeries in which she can diagnose, refer and prescribe. Pauline also undertakes home visits and telephone consultations.

Mrs Margaret Murray, Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Margaret has recently joined the practice as an ANP, her qualifcation in Advanced Practice allows her to assess, examine, diagnose and implement a plan of care for her patients, she also has a non-medical prescribing qualification which allows her to commence medication if required
Gillian Brogan, Senior Practice Nurse
Gillian has benn in post as a senior practice nurse at Castle Douglas Medical Group since February 2009. Since qualifying in 1987 she initially worked in surgical wards at Dumfries Infirmary.
Gillian also worked a staff nurse in the rehabilitation unit at Castle Douglas Hospital. In 2003 she became Stroke Liasion Nurse for the Stewartry where she developed her interest in risk factor management and health promotion. You can consult Gillian for the following:
- Routine monitoring and follow-up for patients with a diagnosis of heart disease
- Blood pressure, stroke, asthma and COPD
- Advice on lifestyle factors such as chloesterol lowering and weight loss
- Cervical Smears
- Wound assessment and management
- Suture removal
- Ear Syringing
Susan Johnstone, Practice Nurse
Susan joined the practice team in 2018 and reviews our diabetics, hypertensive and heart failure patients as well as other treatment room procedures.
Gillian White, Treatment Room Nurse
Gillian joined the practice in 2022, she had previously worked with the District Nurse team in Castle Douglas.
Gillian can deal with the following:
- Blood pressure checks and ECGs
- Ear syringing
- Dressing changes and stitch removal
- Asthma clinics
- Minor injuries
- Cervical smears
- Catheter changes
Sharon Robinson, Health Care Assistant
Sharon joined the team in September, having spend a number of years as a health care assistant in Accident and Emergency at DGRI. Prior to that she was a health care assistant at Kirkcudbright Health Centre brings with her a wealth of experience.
Megan McDougall, Health Care Assistant
Megan was formerly a receptionist with the practice but has moved permanently to a health care assistant post.
